Former world number seven Danielle Collins came back from a set down to outlast an impressive assault by Katie Volynets, squeaking through a second-set tiebreak before handing the youngster a bagel in the third. The 30-year-old will be desperate to win at least one more title in her final season on tour and she has impressed since announcing her plans to retire at the end of the year, with a run to the quarter-finals of the Qatar Masters last month setting out her stall as a solid contender here in Austin. World number 64 Xiyu Wang is yet to drop a set this week after blasting past Darja Semenistaja but this will be a significantly tougher assignment. The 22-year-old is capable of much better tennis than her current deflated ranking suggests but she is far from the player who was stunning the likes of Barbora Krejcikova and Maria Sakkari in 2022. Collins beat the Chinese in three sets at Roland-Garros three years ago but back her to take this one in two.
