World number 14 Belinda Bencic beat home hopeful Katie Swan in straight sets on Wednesday to get her Wimbledon campaign underway unscathed. The 26-year-old won her sevenths and eighth WTA titles in Adelaide and Abu Dhabi earlier this season and she finished runner-up to Ons Jabeur in Charleston before an injury, suffered in the final, saw her miss the majority of the clay swing. The Swiss is probably still far from her previous peak ahead of this potential thriller on Thursday but she remains the favourite on season form against former world number seven Danielle Collins, who has struggled since making the third round at the Australian Open in January. 29-year-old Collins finished runner-up to Ash Barty in Melbourne last season to briefly become the US number one but she has steadily fallen back down the rankings to come into SW19 at 52nd. A straight sets victory over Julia Grabher was expected from a big-game player like Collins but this looks too steep of a challenge on grass, a surface that Bencic has enjoyed in the past. Take Bencic to edge through outright but this match is well worth leaving out of an accumulator.
