THE PREDICTION
This is a huge opportunity for one of world number 92 Daniel Altmaier and number 108 Yannick Hanfmann to reach the round of 16 of the Madrid Open on their respective debuts. Both Germans are already breaking new ground at this level by reaching the third round of a Masters tournament but 31-year-old Hanfmann has arguably better-earned his place by stunning 15th seed Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets on Friday for one of the best results of his long career. 23-year-old Altmaier lost in qualifying this week but then enjoyed the rare double-second chance with a bye through to the second round as a lucky loser to face another German in Oscar Otte and he fully utilised the opportunity with a straight sets victory. A first meeting between Altmaier and Hanfmann should be a good natured affair but there is certainly more on the line for Hanfmann at the opposite side of his career to his opponent.
Four wins this week suggests Hanfmann can edge through here but the freedom of playing as the lucky loser makes Altmaier very dangerous. Leave this match out of an accumulator but otherwise consider the three set option. At a push, back Altmaier to edge through with less pressure on his shoulders.
