World number 98 Oscar Otte did well to cope with the last minute fixture change on Wednesday to beat Pavel Kotov in three sets after he replaced Fabio Fognini and he will have to recalibrate quickly again as Pablo Carreno Busta pulled out of their second round match. Lucky loser Daniel Altmaier comes into the second round with a golden second chance after losing to Jurij Rodionov in qualifying and the younger German is certainly the more comfortable on this surface, with a recent Challenger title to prove it. 28-year-old Otte beat Altmaier in straight sets at the Stuttgart Open last summer on grass that better-suited him but the playing field should tip a little towards Altmaier here, particularly as he will be so eager to take advantage of this rare opportunity. Both of their sets last summer went to tiebreaks and so taking at least one of those here could be the suitable way to avoid picking a result at all. Otherwise, back Altmaier to earn at least a set and leave the victor up to chance.
