World number 80 Clara Tauson and number 81 Jaqueline Cristian will meet at your level for the first time here on Thursday but the pair played just over a week ago at the Linz Open qualifying, where Tauson won in comfortable straight sets. This clash should come a lot closer with more on the line, particularly as home hopeful Cristian will be backed the to hilt by a partisan atmosphere, but Tauson went on to reach the round of 16 in Linz last week – challenging eventual champion Jelena Ostapenko more than most in an eye-catching performance. 25-year-old Cristian beat lucky loser Marina Bassols Ribera in straight sets on Tuesday but 21-year-old Tauson looked strong in her consummate opener over Nadia Podoroska. The Dane is still desperately seeking her previous rising star status after a poor 2022 but she increasingly looks like she may find it this year. Back Tauson to reach the quarter-finals.
