World number 34 Donna Vekic produced a stunning performance against in-form Dayana Yastremska, conceding just two games to oust the Ukrainian who had just reached the semi-finals at the Australian Open. Former number 19 Vekic has struggled for form in recent months after enjoying an excellent renaissance period from late 2022 into the first half of last season but she should be better for a confidence-booster like Thursday’s as she takes on another youngster in Clara Burel. 22-year-old Burel will break inside the top 50 on tour for the first time after an excellent three-set victory over Katerina Siniakova backed-up a solid run to the third round in Melbourne two weeks ago.
