Former world number 35 Jiri Vesely proved himself on grass once again with a huge upset over Sebastian Korda in four sets in the first round. The Czech came into Wimbledon on a protected ranking after missing most of the last 12 months on tour with injury but he is well capable of a run here with two round of 16 exits already at SW19 in 2016 and 2018. World number 73 Christopher O’Connell continues to enjoy the best season of his career so far, beating Hamad Medjedovic in four sets to reach the second round at Wimbledon for the first time. The Aussie upset Lorenzo Sonego in Stuttgart last month to look a threat in these conditions but Vesely has pedigree in spades at this tournament. A first meeting between the two should see sets go both ways but back Vesely to win outright.
