THE PREDICTION
In-form Christopher Eubanks will break inside the top 30 for the first time after an excellent comeback over Brandon Nakashima on Thursday. The 27-year-old is enjoying the form of his career in 2023, first producing a shock run to the quarter-finals of the Miami Open back in March before totally transforming his fortunes on grass to claim a maiden ATP title at the Mallorca Championships and making it 10 wins on the spin with a run to the last eight at Wimbledon. This will be an interesting test of his metal, though, against a player he trails 4-2 in a head-to-head record off the tour in their first ever clash at this level. Aleksandar Vukic, also 27, will break into the top 80 for the first time after coming back from a set down to stun fourth seed Yoshihito Nishioka for a career-best result this season.
Vukic has beaten Eubanks in three of their four encounters at Challenger level this season but he will find an almost unrecognisable version of the American here and home advantage should come to Eubanks’ aid in Atlanta. Four of their 11 sets played this year have seen tiebreaks, so back Eubanks to win outright and consider adding at least a tiebreak.
