THE PREDICTION
Two-time defending champion Casper Ruud beat J.J. Wolf in straight sets on Wednesday for a solid opener in Geneva. The world number four has endured an odd season of peaks and troughs so far but he claimed the 10th ATP title of his career last month at the Estoril Open and a run to the semi-finals of the Italian Open last week suggests he could be finding his feet at just the right time to be contender at Roland-Garros, where he finished runner-up to Rafael Nadal last summer. World number 54 Nicolas Jarry also claimed an ATP 250 title on clay on home soil at the Chile Open to give him one of the best records on the surface on tour this season. The 27-year-old did well to oust in-form Dusan Lajovic in the first round here in Geneva before receiving a walkover to the quarter-finals but Ruud should be too steep of a challenge with titles to defend. The Norwegian is still a tough man to back with full confidence but a three-set victory over Jarry late last season at the Korea Open says taking Ruud to win outright is the sensible call.
