22-year-old Matteo Arnaldi will break the top 100 for the first time in his career after a three-set victory over Benoit Paire on Wednesday. The Italian claimed his first ever tour-level victory in Barcelona last week to back-up a Challenger title won in Murcia and he fares a genuine chance at a huge upset here against an out-of-sorts Casper Ruud. World number four Ruud won the Estoril Open earlier this month to seemingly out his poor 2023 form behind him but early exits in Monte-Carlo and Barcelona suggest his confidence is brittle at best right now. The 24-year-old remains one of the most natural clay-courters on tour but it is currently difficult to back him with any degree of confidence. That makes a one-off on Arnaldi to earn at least a set here on momentum alone seem a reasonable call but it is certainly wise to leave this match out of an accumulator.
