26-year-old Tommy Paul moved back up to a career-high ATP world ranking of 13th after a remarkable run to the semi-finals of the Canada Masters last week, where he beat Carlos Alcaraz for the second year running before defeat to eventual champion Jannik Sinner. The American now leads Alcaraz 2-1 in their head-to-head with two three-set results over the Spaniard but Alcaraz has earned at least a set in all three of their meetings to offer a suitably cautious option here. It could be worth taking that concession after Alcaraz brought his choppy performances from Toronto into Cincinnati with a three-set victory over Jordan Thompson, whilst Paul has beaten two tough foes in straight sets to look dialled in. This could prove to be their most thrilling battle yet in such a fresh rematch but Alcaraz will be hell-bent on proving himself here after showing too much of his frustrations in their clash last week. Back the Spaniard to earn at least a set inside an accumulator or to win outright on its own, probably in three and probably featuring a tiebreak.
