World number one Carlos Alcaraz is through to the third round at Wimbledon without dropping a set but he was challenged throughout by an impressive Alexandre Muller on Thursday. The 20-year-old went form undercooked on grass to a Wimbledon contender in the space of a week last month when he won a first ATP title on grass at Queen’s, already his fifth title of the season. 27-year-old Nicolas Jarry will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 26th after making the third round here for the first time with an excellent four-set victory over Jason Kubler. The Chilean has picked up two titles of his own this year in what has been his best season on tour to date but both came on his favoured clay in Santiago and Geneva, with this looking too steep of a challenge on grass. Jarry has played well enough this year to genuinely cause pause for thought in this first meeting with Alcaraz but the Spaniard should be able to improve on Thursday to come through in straight sets.
