World number 26 Dan Evans backed up an excellent upset victory over Karen Khachanov with a brilliant comeback over Francisco Cerundolo on Friday. The 32-year-old has vastly improved his game on clay over the last few seasons but a run like this should be beyond him against much more natural performers on the surface and that is testament to how well he is playing in the key moments this week. This should, however, be several steps too far against world number two and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz as the Spaniard comes from a well-fought straight-sets battle with compatriot Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. The 19-year-old has had his serve broken seven times this week but still managed to reach the semi-finals without dropping a set and that suggests there will be opportunities for Evans here but likely not enough of them. A tiebreak could be a shrewd addition here but otherwise back Alcaraz to win in two.
