World number 100 Camila Osorio set a career-high WTA world ranking of 33rd early last season on the back of some impressive work on clay the year before and she proved her ability on the surface on Wednesday with an excellent three-set result over Varvara Gracheva. The Colombian reached the third round of the Madrid Open two weeks ago with an upset over a seed in Marta Kostyuk and she stands a slight chance at emulating that here against 29th seed Petra Martic. 31-year-old Martic, though, is also a clay-court enthusiast with a particularly love for the conditions in Rome, where she reached the semi-finals in 2021 before a three-set exit to Karolina Pliskova. The Croat reached the quarter-finals of Roland-Garros in 2019 and she made the last eight just last week in Madrid before defeat to Iga Swiatek. Back the Croat to win outright here but three sets seem likelier than two.
