This match has three sets written all over it between two work horses in former world number three Stan Wawrinka and number 73 Brandon Nakashima. 22-year-old Nakashima is labouring through a sticky sophomore season on tour after claiming his maiden ATP title this time last summer and then going on to win the Next Gen ATP Finals but the American should come good again sooner rather than later. Meanwhile, 38-year-old Wawrinka has impressively fought himself back up to world number 51 with some huge performances in 2023. The Swiss wisely took a few weeks off after reaching his first tour final since 2019, where he took the first set before defeat to Alexei Popyrin, but it remains to be seen how well he acclimatises back on hardcourts after enjoying the clay. Wawrinka beat Nakashima on clay in three sets last summer but the American will be well backed by a near-partisan crowd on Monday and the conditions level the playing field. Take the match to see three sets on its own or Nakashima to earn at least one against a potentially slow start.
