29-year-old Gregoire Barrere set a career-high ATP world ranking of 56th last month after enjoying his most consistent form on tour yet, with victories over the likes of Alexander Bublik and Cam Norrie bringing him deeper into tournaments. World number 47 Brandon Nakashima ended last season in excellent form to claim a maiden ATP title on home soil in San Diego and end up the Next Gen ATP Finals champion but he has struggled to match that intensity so far this season. The 21-year-old should come good once again sooner rather than later but clay has so far not been that kind to him. A first meeting between two players who would much prefer slogging it out on a hardcourt baseline should see plenty of lengthy rallies, and probably three sets, but back Barrere with his better recent form to earn at least one of them here to leave the victor up to chance.
