21-year-old Brandon Nakashima ended last season with a maiden ATP title at the San Diego Open and as the Nest Gen ATP Finals champion but he suffered an understandable lapse in form at the start of this season. The world number 52 enjoyed a strong run to the semi-finals of the Lyon Open this week, though, that saw an encouraging win over Tommy Paul before a tight defeat to Arthur Fils. World number 31 Denis Shapovalov brings a poor 7-9 record into Roland-Garros and next-to-no form on clay, his weakest surface, to look the reasonable underdog despite being seeded here in Paris. Nakashima has so far carried himself well on tour to suggest that a deep run in Lyon will transfer into better form in Paris and he beat Shapovalov in four sets at Wimbledon last summer en-route to the round of 16. Back Nakashima to win outright with this match a reasonable candidate for five sets.
