THE PREDICTION
World number 50 Botic van de Zandschulp endured a season to forget last year, although he found a little joy right at the end with a strong run to the last 16 at the Paris Masters. The 28-year-old set a career-high ATP world ranking of 22nd in the summer of 2022 and whilst is unlikely that he can reach those heights again he remains a top 30 talent at his best. 18-year-old Juncheng Shang is part of an exciting surge of Chinese players on both tours who burst onto the scene late last year on the Asian swing. A shock comeback victory over seventh seed Laslo Djere snapped a four-match losing streak at tour level and he will receive the lion’s share of the support in Hong Kong against a European opponent. Van de Zandschulp made short work of Shintaro Mochizuki on Monday but this match looks likelier to see three sets than two. Back the Dutchman to win at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
