THE PREDICTION

World number 16 Borna Coric reached the semi-finals of the Madrid Open two weeks ago before defeat to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz but he survived an early scare here in Rome with a remarkably tight comeback over Thiago Monteiro. Both players could be feeling the effects of their previous matches here after world number 51 Roberto Carballes Baena overcame Dan Evans is just under four hours on Saturday, backing up a solid opener over Hugo Dellien. The Spaniard recently claimed his second ATP title on his favoured clay at the Marrakech Open but Coric is an excellent all-courter wit great pedigree at Masters level. Coric leads RCB 2-0 in their head-to-head but their previous match went to three sets at the Miami Open four years ago and this first encounter on clay will level the playing field a little. Back Coric to edge through outright here but the three-set option is a tempting alternative to picking a result.
