THE PREDICTION

World number 37 Borna Coric received a bye to the round of 16 at the Montpellier Open as the fourth seed this week but the Croat could have certainly done with an extra round’s practice. Coric won the 2022 Cincinnati Masters to prove himself a top talent on hardcourts despite so many injuries in recent seasons but last year was more of a struggle, ending early with injury in the first round of the US Open. The 27-year-old finished runner-up to Leandro Riedi at a Challenger event in Belgium last week to bring some decent form into this first meeting with Pedro Martinez but the Spaniard stands a chance at the upset here after a solid win over Jaume Munar on Monday. Martinez also reached a Challenger final in his native Spain two weeks ago to suggest this could be a close challenge but back Coric to edge through in hardcourt conditions.

TIP: BORNA CORIC TO WIN
