THE PREDICTION

26-year-old Borna Coric is just three places behind his career-high ATP world ranking of 12th that he first set in 2018. The Croat has enjoyed an excellent past 15 months on tour since returning from a year-long absence through injury with deep runs this season in Madrid and Rome complementing his first Masters title won at the Cincinnati Open last summer. Coric won the Halle Open in 2018 to prove his credentials on grass and he looks the solid favourite to beat world number 68 Mackenzie McDonald here despite losing to the American in their only previous encounter at the Australian Open back in 2021. However, 28-year-old McDonald grabbed a strong straight-sets victory over Ilya Ivashka on Tuesday to get an important win on grass in his legs and that could be an important factor as Coric plays his first match on the surface this year. Back the Croat to win outright here but leave this one out of any promising accumulators.
