THE PREDICTION
World number seven Marketa Vondrousova won her maiden Grand Slam title at Wimbledon last summer, stunning the tennis world with some sudden, imperious tennis on what we assumed to be her weakest surface by far, but some debilitating injuries in late 2023 saw her form fall away. The 24-year-old looked to turn something of a corner last month with runs to the last 16 of the Qatar Masters and quarter-finals of the Dubai Masters but her level remains a mystery coming into Indian Wells and this match is certainly worth leaving out of an accumulator. World number 78 Bernarda Pera did well to overcome Daria Saville in three sets on Wednesday and she will enjoy the lion’s share of the support as one of many home hopefuls vying for attention in the desert. At her best, Vondrousova should be coasting through this first tour-level encounter but the sensible concession is taking the Czech to win outright here.
TIP: MARKETA VONDROUSOVA TO WIN
