World number five Stefanos Tsitsipas has done well to edge through two tough matches so far against Dominic Thiem and Sebastian Baez in three sets each but it is hard to confidently back the Greek when he is not dominating matches. The 24-year-old finished runner-up to Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open with a convincing campaign but an injury dogged him across the Sunshine Double and he has yet to look as confident on court despite reaching the Barcelona Open final two weeks ago. 26-year-old Bernabe Zapata Miralles will break the top 40 on tour for the first time after reaching the round of 16 at Madrid on his debut, emulating his career-best run to the last 16 at Roland-Garros last summer. The Spaniard has taken out three tough foes this week but Tsitsipas is his first with all the tools to excel on clay and the Greek should have enough to eventually sneak through this first encounter. The Madrid crowd will hand Zapata Miralles a partisan atmosphere and three sets seem likelier than two given Tsitsipas’ wobbles so far, so take the Greek to win outright here.
