26-year-old Bernabe Zapata Miralles came back from a set down to beat Mackenzie McDonald via a tiebreak on Thursday in another eye-catching result on his favoured clay. The Spaniard stunned Hubert Hurkacz in a similar fashion at the Estoril Open earlier this month and he reached the round of 16 at Roland-Garros last season to see him up to a career-high ATP world ranking of 40th in the live rankings. World number 24 Dan Evans has worked hard over the last few seasons to take clay from his weakest surface to, arguably, his best after a brilliant run to the semi-finals of the Barcelona Open last week saw victories over Francisco Cerundolo and Karen Khachanov. The 32-year-old is a tough player to meet for the first time but there is no doubt that Zapata Miralles is the more comfortable in these conditions and home advantage has to count for something here.
