21-year-old Ben Shelton came into the Tokyo Open at a career-high ATP world ranking of 19th after backing-up his huge run to the semi-finals of the US Open with a first real ATP tour performance in Shanghai. The American started Shanghai with a negative record, despite also reaching the quarter-finals of the Australian Open in January, after struggling away from the biggest stages on his tour debut but he proved his potential with an excellent first top five victory over Jannik Sinner in three sets - en-route to a tight exit to Sebastian Korda in the quarter-finals last week.
