Roman Safiullin produced a battling performance in the round-of-16, coming from a set down to beat Quentin Halys. This was an incredibly impressive victory for the Russian, as he won 5-7 6-3 6-4 despite Halys winning 92% of his first serve point across the entire match. Safiullin had easily got past Fajng Sun in his first-round match.

He now plays Yunchaokete Bu for a place in the last four. Bu defeated Kamil Majchrzak in three sets. After two extremely tight sets were decided by tiebreaks, Bu seized control of the decider, racing through it to win 7-6 (4) 6-7 (5) 6-2. He also beat Michael Zheng in round one of the tournament.
