Both world number 13 Beatriz Haddad-Maia and number 37 Sorana Cirstea have been in some of the longest matches on the WTA tour this season, including their most recent scrap at the Dubai Masters in February. 33-year-old Cirstea came back from a set down to edge through that particular marathon to lead 2-1 in their head-to-head record but Haddad-Maia has earned at least a set in all three of their encounters, including in a straight-sets victory at Adelaide 2 in January. Both players have already endured two three-set ordeals already this week, with Cirstea stunning Birmingham champion Jelena Ostapenko from a set down on Thursday and Haddad-Maia twice fighting back to beat Yulia Putintseva and Jaqueline Cristian so far. Fatigue could be a factor in this potential thriller given how rain has affected the draw this week and three sets look likely in this sleeper hit.
