World number 13 Beatriz Haddad-Maia has returned to tour a lot sooner than expected considering she could barely walk off of the court after suffering an unfortunate injury in the round of 16 at Wimbledon last month. The 27-year-old produced a stunning run to the semi-finals at Roland-Garros in June and she had looked like finding her feet at SW19 after a tough start before seemingly seizing her back early in her match with Elena Rybakina. Former world number two Paula Badosa also had to retire injured from Wimbledon, to Marta Kostyuk in the second round, to make this reunion of friends off the court a real head-scratcher. The 25-year-old beat Haddad-Maia in straight sets in Adelaide at the start of the season but the Brazilian levelled things up soon after in Qatar to see a finely poised 1-1 head-to-head here. Leave this match well away from an accumulator considering there is a high chance the match may not finish but otherwise consider taking at least one tiebreak in the match as each of their previous two this year have seen one.
