THE PREDICTION
World number 15 Beatriz Haddad-Maia overcame an impressive Camila Osorio in straight sets on Monday to maintain a convincing run at the Italian Open whilst world number 47 Anhelina Kalinina came back from a set down to stun Madison Keys. Whilst world number one Iga Swiatek remains the clear favourite to lift her third-straight title on Saturday this looks an intriguing part of the draw and the winner of this round of 16 clash should be considered a dark horse with few top seeds left. Kalinina came back from a set down to beat Haddad-Maia at the Miami Open last March in their only tour-level meeting to date and this rematch could come as close again with both players excellent competitors on clay. Kalinina is the easier to underestimate of the two but also the more natural in these conditions, whilst Haddad-Maia’s Women’s Doubles title won in Madrid two weeks ago is strong momentum to have to face. Back Haddad-Maia to earn at least a set here given she is yet to drop one in Rome and leave the victor up to chance.
