World number 12 Barbora Krejcikova was upset in the first round of Roland-Garros, where she lifted her Grand Slam title in 2021, last time out but she looks refreshed and ready to move on after a straight-sets win over Cristina Bucsa on Wednesday. The 27-year-old has a combative, disruptive playstyle suitable for all surfaces but it is true that we have yet to see her produce her best tennis on grass. World number 122 Tereza Martincova is probably at her best on grass, with her career-best run at a Grand Slam coming at Wimbledon two years ago, and the 28-year-old will be relieved to have snapped a five-match losing streak on Wednesday with a comprehensive victory over Viktoriya Tomova. Krejcikova leads Martincova 2-1 at tour level in their head-to-head after most recently beating her fellow Czech in the Prague Open final back in 2021 but Martincova should fare a little better than that 6-2 6-0 result on her favoured surface. The suitably cautious move, given Krejsikova’s recent results, is backing the top seed to win outright here but she should be able to come through in two.
