THE PREDICTION
This should be a thrilling clash on Sunday between two of the last five players to win Roland-Garros. 2017 champion Jelena Ostapenko overcame in-form Sorana Cirstea in three sets on Friday for a defiant opener here but the world number 20 has failed to win back-to-back matches on clay yet this swing. Meanwhile, 2021 champion Barbora Krejcikova was in control of her first match with Danka Kovinic before the Montenegrin was forced to retire in the second set. The former world number two claimed her first Masters title back in February in Dubai, at Iga Swiatek’s expense, but her defeat at this stage of the Madrid Open two weeks ago to Petra Martic was certainly a mis-step. Krejcikova leads their your-level head-to-head 2-1 but Ostapenko won their most recent encounter at last season’s Qatar Masters. The Czech has improved a lot since that fallow patch on tour but this is still a very close call. Back Krejcikova to earn at least a set here and leave the victor up to chance with Ostapenko capable of anything.
