THE PREDICTION

World number 27 Barbora Krejcikova looks like she means business this week in San Diego after back-to-back straight set wins over Anhelina Kalinina and Beatriz Haddad-Maia. The 27-year-old brought a four-match losing streak into the tournament and an even worse run of form in doubles alongside her seasoned partner Katerina Siniakova but the top seeds are through to the semi-finals here in tandem with her singles run to suggest this could be a huge turnaround weekend. World number 43 Danielle Collins won her second WTA title here in two years ago and she too is through to the semi-finals in both codes in a surprise partnership with Coco Vandeweghe. This may not be the only time Collins and Krejcikova face each other this week but this is the first time they have ever played on tour, with home advantage favouring Collins. The American conceded just five games to Caroline Garcia on Thursday to back-up an excellent win over Jelena Ostapenko but an in-form Krejcikova poses an entirely different threat. Back the Czech to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
