THE PREDICTION
This promises to be a proper thriller between world number two Aryna Sabalenka and number 12 Barbora Krejcikova as they face off for, remarkably, the fourth time this season. 24-year-old Sabalenka leads Krejcikova 4-1 in their head-to-head after claiming each of the last two encounters at Indian Wells and the Miami Open but Krejcikova became the first player to beat the Belarusian this season before that at the Dubai Masters en-route to her first WTA 1000 title. This is the first meeting between the two on clay, which certainly favours the 27-year-old Czech, and Krejcikova has the benefit of a first round win in her legs after blasting Liudmila Samsonova off the court on Monday. Former world number two Krejcikova is often underestimated but her form this season makes her a clear contender at Roland-Garros next month as a former champion in 2021. Sabalenka will play her first clay court match of the season here and she could barely have drawn a harder opponent. Back Krejcikova to win outright.
