World number 28 Botic van de Zandschulp conceded just two games to Aslan Karatsev at the Munich Open last week but this rematch is likely to come a lot closer. 27-year-old Van de Zandschulp was on a mission to avenge his defeat to Holger Rune in the Munich final last season, where injury saw him have to conceded early, and he played lights out tennis all week to do once again face the Dane before a gut-wrenching defeat in three sets. The Dutchman will have put a lot more than he usually does into that campaign and it would be totally understandable to see a hangover into this one. Meanwhile, former world number 14 Karatsev is yet to drop a set this week from qualifying through to the second round and his last two results over clay-court aficionados Jan-Lennard Struff and Laslo Djere are very strong in these conditions.
