THE PREDICTION
World number 50 Yannick Hanfmann has found the form of his career on his favoured clay this summer but the German faces one last realistic chance at claiming that elusive maiden ATP title in this final tour-level event on the surface. The 31-year-old received a bye to the round of 16 as the second seed this week in a wide open Kitzbuhel draw but he has failed to win back-to-back matches in each of his last three tournaments since a run to the semi-finals of the Mallorca Championships. World number 67 Arthur Rinderknech won the Zug Challenger last week and the Frenchman came back from a set down to oust Juan Manuel Cerundolo on Tuesday. The 28-year-old’s decision to dip back into the Challenger tour for some confidence looks set to pay off over the coming months after a woeful past 12 or so on tour but Hanfmann remains the more comfortable on clay. The pair share a 1-1 head-to-head record from a win apiece two years ago but the German took their encounter on clay to look the favourite here. Take Hanfmann to edge through outright or consider a one-off on three sets.
