THE PREDICTION

34-year-old Arina Rodionova overcame doubles partner Yue Yuan in three tight sets on Tuesday but the pair are going strong together still, reaching the quarter-finals with victory on Wednesday. Rodionova will break inside the top 100 for the first time for her efforts, something she will take great pride in after feeling snubbed by the wildcard selections at the Australian Open, but this looks a tough first encounter with Zhuoxuan Bai. 21-year-old Bai beat Chloe Paquet in straight sets on Tuesday to claim a first tour-level win since last September but she ended 2023 with two ITF titles on the Asian swing and she will enjoy the majority of the support here in Thailand. Rodionova has enjoyed the better recent form on tour, reaching the last 16 at the Brisbane 500 at the start of the year, so back the Aussie to earn at least a set as the likelier of two capable quarter-finalists.
