World number 107 Arantxa Rus grabbed one of the best wins of her career, particularly within the last few seasons, with a straight-set upset over an out-of-sorts Amanda Anisimova on Wednesday. The 32-year-old is yet to drop a set this week after qualifying well in Madrid and that makes her a genuine threat to world number nine Maria Sakkari in this second round clash despite the Greek’s convincing 4-0 lead in their head-to-head. 27-year-old Sakkari suffered an early exit to Karolina Pliskova at the Stuttgart Open last time out and whilst that is no great embarrassment it does leave her undercooked on clay and riding a three-match losing streak from the semi-finals of Indian Wells.
