22-year-old Alycia Parks claimed her maiden WTA title with a stunning victory over Caroline Garcia at the Lyon Open in February but she has lost seven of her eight matches since, including her first two on clay this season. That leaves former world number 26, now 96, Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova looking the favourite to come through this first encounter after the Slovak qualified well this week to get some clay wins under her belt. Two of Schmiedlova’s three WTA titles were won on clay in Bucharest and most recently Bogota back in 2018 and the conditions should heavily favour her here, particularly as she has some practice already this week. Back Schmiedlova to win outright.
