THE PREDICTION
World number two Aryna Sabalenka avoided a serious scare on Friday, having to serve to stay in the tournament against Varvara Gracheva before eventually winning the third set more comfortably. The 25-year-old won her first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in January with a comeback over Elena Rybakina, reigning champion here, and she came into SW19 as one of the clear favourites alongside the Kazakh, Petra Kvitova and to a certain extent Iga Swiatek. 24-year-old Anna Blinkova will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of around 36th after an impressive upset over 29th seed Irina-Camelia Begu on Friday and the Russian will fancy her chances at providing another scare here if Sabalenka does not find better rhythm on her serve. The Belarussian’s top gear is too powerful for most players but it is also vulnerable at times, with Blinkova well capable of snatching a set if she makes the second seed play an extra ball as often as possible. Sabalenka should improve on her performance yesterday but the outright pick is the sensible call here.
