THE PREDICTION

World number 43 Mirra Andreeva is yet to drop a set this week in Rouen, beating fellow Russian Elina Avanesyan on Wednesday to back-up an impressive opener over clay specialist Nadia Podoroska. The 16-year-old is coming up to the anniversary of her remarkable run to the round of 16 at the Madrid Masters that signalled the start of her surge up the rankings, backed up by big campaigns at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon, and capping off the past 12 months with a maiden title would be a wonderful moment this weekend. World number 32 Anhelina Kalinina is a very tough opponent in these conditions, though, as she proved by hammering Martina Trevisan in straight sets on Thursday. The Ukrainian is the third seed this week for a reason, with last May’s second-place at the Rome Masters proof of her credentials in these conditions, but back Andreeva to earn at least a set with the crowd likely behind her quest for a title.
