THE PREDICTION
World number 35 Anhelina Kalinina is so far impressing as the top seed at the Austin Open, conceding just eight games to Sara Bejlek and Camila Osorio. The 27-year-old is nominally at her best on clay, with last season’s remarkable run to the Rome Masters final proof of her capabilities this time of year, but she has the game to compete well on all surfaces. The same could be said for world number 62 Diane Parry, who has particularly caught the eye at Grand Slams on all three surfaces in recent years. The 21-year-old is yet to drop a set this week but this will be a much steeper test than her first two matches despite leading Kalinina 1-0 at tour-level after a straight sets victory at Roland-Garros last summer. Three sets seem likelier than two here so back Kalinina to earn at least a set as the likelier of two capable semi-finalists.
