THE PREDICTION

26-year-old Anhelina Kalinina set a career-high WTA world ranking of 25th this week after an incredible run to the final of the Italian Open last weekend. The Ukrainian had previously excelled on her favoured clay but hard-fought victories over the likes of Madison Keys, Beatriz Haddad-Maia and Veronika Kudermetova seemed to redefine her self-belief over the campaign as much as they also looked to catch up with her against Elena Rybakina in the final. World number 77 Diane Parry produced a surprise run to the third round here last summer before defeat to former finalist Sloane Stephens but she has plated just one tour-level match this season. The 20-year-old will be backed as a home hopeful here but the atmosphere is unlikely to be totally partisan against Ukraine’s Kalinina, who won plenty of new fans in Rome with her gritty performances. Back Kalinina to win outright here as there could be something a of a hangover from her first Masters final last weekend.
