THE PREDICTION
World number 10 Taylor Fritz stunned an out-of-sorts Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets on Friday, ousting the defending champion with four breaks to one. The 25-year-old has now reached at least the quarter-finals in each of his last six tournaments, with semi-finals made both here and the Dallas Open as well as a final at the Delray Beach Open where he claimed his fifth ATP title. World number six Andrey Rublev looks in good shape this week after a shaky start to his Monte-Carlo campaign and he finished runner-up to Tsitsipas here two seasons ago. The Russian, also 25, made short work of surprise quarter-finalist Jan-Lennard Struff on Friday but his best result of the week was ousting in-form Karen Khachanov in the round of 16. Whilst Fritz’ performance against Tsitsipas was excellent, his opponent was oddly poor. The American leads Rublev 4-2 in their head-to-head record after winning each of their last three encounters but a first clay meeting probably just-about better suits Rublev here. Two of their six previous meetings have seen sets go both ways, though, so backing Fritz to win at least one set here based on his record over Rublev looks the sensible way to avoid picking an outright winner here.
