26-year-old Tallon Griekspoor made it seven wins on the spin on grass with a fabulous three-set victory over defending Halle Open champion Hubert Hurkacz on Thursday. The Dutchman won his second ATP title of the season on home soil on Sunday with an excellent campaign at ‘s-Hertogenbosch but his victory over Hurkacz, 10-8 in the deciding tiebreak, is by far his most impressive of this run. World number seven Andrey Rublev beat Yannick Hanfmann in straight sets on Thursday to improve on a choppy opener against Yibing Wu but the Russian looks the slightest of underdogs here given Griekspoor’s confidence right now. Rublev beat Griekspoor in three sets at the Qatar Open back in February in their only previous meeting and that suggests taking Griekspoor to earn at least a set is the most sensible way to avoid picking a winner.
