World number five Andrey Rublev received a bye to the round of 16 as the top seed this week in Doha and he looks the overwhelming favourite to take the crown this weekend. The 26-year-old started 2024 by picking up his 16th ATP title at the Hong Kong Open and his reputation as something of a flat-track bully at this level (ATP 250) should see him pick up a second title here having previously won in 2020. Former world number seven Richard Gasquet grabbed an eye-catching victory over in-form Alexander Shevchenko on Tuesday but the 37-year-old has been struggling to maintain any sort of consistency for the best part of 12 months now. Gasquet took a set before defeat to Rublev in their only previous encounter two years ago but the Russian can be backed to come through in two this time.
