THE PREDICTION
21-year-old Elina Avanesyan beat Tamara Korpatsch in straight sets on Tuesday to see her live ranking tip inside the top 60 on tour for the first time. The Russian stunned Maria Sakkari in straight sets to reach the third round of the Australian Open last month, before just losing out to Marta Kostyuk in a tight encounter, and she looks ready to enjoy her best season yet on tour. Former number 11 Ana Sevastova won her first tour-level match since returning from maternity leave, beating home hopeful Andreea Mitu on Tuesday, to gain some much-needed confidence. It will be fascinating to see what the Latvian can do over the rest of the season but she was a talented hard-courter in her prime, capable of taking this low-ranked field by the scruff of the neck. Avanesyan should be considered a decent title contender here in Cluj-Napoca but take the safe approach with an outright win.
TIP: ELINA AVANESYAN TO WIN
