World number 27 Anastasia Potapova stunned an out-of-sorts Ons Jabeur in straight sets on Wednesday to back up an impressive opener over Alycia Parks. The 22-year-old came into some serious form at the Miami Open back in March, reaching the quarter-finals before a three-set defeat to Jessica Pegula, and after a tough summer she could be a serious factor across the rest of the hardcourt season. Former world number four Sofia Kenin came back from a set down to oust Katie Volynets on Wednesday, backing-up an upset of her own over another struggling top seed in Veronika Kudermetova. The 24-year-old moved back inside the top 100 over the summer for a first time since 2021 and there are some encouraging signs of her steadily rising back up to somewhere near her former glory after several years in the wilderness. A first meeting between the two should be a thriller but Potapova looks the favourite on their respective results, although home advantage and the whiff of a deep run should see Kenin improve. Back Potapova to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
