World number 17 Karolina Muchova finished runner-up to Iga Swiatek at Roland-Garros in June, taking the Pole closer than anyone else since her dominance started in Paris in 2020, but she has struggled a little since then. An unfortunate injury saw her lose out to Jule Niemeier in the first round at Wimbledon last month and she returned a little cold at the Poland Open to be upset by Rebecca Sramkova in three sets. World number 27 Anastasia Potapova was forced to retire injured from her opening match at the Washington Open last week to see two players with questionable fitness face off here. The Russian came into the form of her career on hardcourts earlier this season, stunning Coco Gauff en-route to the quarter-finals of the Miami Open, but she has fallen away a little since her run to the semi-finals of the Stuttgart Open in April. Leave this match out of any promising accumulators but otherwise take Muchova to earn at least a set in a match that looks likely to need a decider, if it finishes at all.
