THE PREDICTION

This is a really tough call to make between former world number four Sofia Kenin and Ana Bogdan, with Kenin’s first round upset over Coco Gauff at Wimbledon last month still fresh in the memory. The current world number 101 won the Australian Open in 2020 and finished runner-up to Iga Swiatek at Roland-Garros, beating Ana Bogdan in three sets en-route, but she has spent much of the past three years in the wilderness struggling to regain her once fearsome best. The 24-year-old still has plenty of time with which to do so but she comes in cold on hardcourts with her last match a straight-sets defeat to Elina Svitolina in the third round at SW19. World number 60 Bogdan also enjoyed a shock run to the third round at SW19, stunning Liudmila Samsonova in the first round, but she has struggled since the start of the hardcourt swing. Home advantage clearly favours Kenin here but the American’s form has been so erratic over the past 12 months. Take Kenin to use the crowd to edge through outright but leave this match well away from any promising accumulators.
