The 38-year-old has not win a title since Geneva in 2017 and it would be the crowning achievement of his ‘second career’ after potentially career-ending surgery. The Swiss is yet to drop a set this week after ousting second seed Lorenzo Sonego in impressive fashion on Saturday but world number 90 Alexei Popyrin has played very well this week, coming back from a set down to beat Matteo Arnaldi yesterday to prove his credentials on clay. The big-serving Aussie has played well despite struggling to find enough first serves but he should struggle in this first meeting with Wawrinka if he cannot improve that stat.
